A is for Ashwagandha

Ashwa-what?

I was first introduced to this herb when I was in the midst of my separation after a 20 year relationship and 12 year marriage.  Needless to say it was a stressful time. I could use all the moral, emotional and herbal support I could find to help me through this major transition.

I enlisted the support of my Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Amber Golshani.  She was my hero, along with my acupuncturist, nature and lots of chocolate. She suggested I get an Ashwaganda supplement STAT and so I did.  It helped me tremendously.

Ashwaganda is an ancient herb that has been used for over 3000 years in Ayurvedic Medicine. It’s also known as Indian Gingseng. It is an adaptogen, meaning it can mysteriously adapt to your individual needs.

This magnificent plant has been used to support the following health issues:

  • Arthritis
  • Constipation
  • Insomnia
  • Skin Conditions
  • Stress
  • GI Issues
  • Diabetes
  • Nervous Breakdowns
  • Fevers
  • Snake Bites
  • Memory Loss

Of course there is no one cure all, however, with a healthy clean diet, plenty of water, sunshine and sleep are all part of the prescription. Always check with your plant friendly health care provider to see what herbs and supplements are good for you.

Dr Amber is now in Colorado supporting the community with herbs, yoga and naturopathy. You can follow her on IG at @healthydoctor.
