The Journey of Grief

A few weeks ago my grandfather passed away.

He lived a full life. He had recently turned 93, but soon after he knew he would be leaving his body soon. Witnessing the cycles of life and death is not easy but it is part of our human experience. This week one of my daughter’s classmates passed away after a battle with an aggressive cancer. He was 13. A boy who had such a huge impact on everyone that crossed his path.

Both of these souls had different journeys in different timelines, yet there are universal messages that are woven throughout.

Life, no matter how long we are here is a precious gift.

Our life is what we make of it no matter what challenges we are faced.

We can live bearing the fruits of  love, hope, strength, joy, grace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self control or we can choose the latter.

We all live out our seasons of life and hopefully the fruits we bear and the seeds we sow will carry on in the hearts that we have touched. I know this to be true of these two amazing Spirits.

When our loved ones transition, we feel a deep loss.

When my grandmother passed, we read in one of her journals, “I am not really gone, only in the next room.” I know this to be true as well.

We miss the physical presence and embodiments of love.

Grief is a guide, a ride and a teacher.

Many bottle it up not allowing the healing process to occur.

Grief allows the energy and emotion to move through us and cleanse our hearts. If we don’t allow it to flow, it can turn into destructive anger, hate and disease. The key is to not let it take you over, but to ride the wave to the shore, where you will see the sun rise again. Death comes in many forms, not just an end of life. To be in awareness of your process is a key to your healing.

Stages of  Grief

  • Shock and Denial
  • Pain and Guilt
  • Anger and Bargaining
  • Depression and Reflection
  • Turn- Around
  • Reconstructing
  • Acceptance and Hope

I suggest journaling through the stages to assist with the healing process, and finding support with the emotional tides to use the energy constructively. All of our emotions are teachers to bring us to a more loving awareness about ourselves, others and the world we currently live in.

Grief held in the body can be destructive and effect our health and wellness.

Find a creative outlet to express your emotions and witness the beauty of your healing process while you witness the return of joy and love in your heart.

Big Hugs.

xx
