The Journey of Grief

A few weeks ago my grandfather passed away.

He lived a full life. He had recently turned 93, but soon after he knew he would be leaving his body soon. Witnessing the cycles of life and death is not easy but it is part of our human experience. This week one of my daughter’s classmates passed away after a battle with an aggressive cancer. He was 13. A boy who had such a huge impact on everyone that crossed his path.

Both of these souls had different journeys in different timelines, yet there are universal messages that are woven throughout.

Life, no matter how long we are here is a precious gift.

Our life is what we make of it no matter what challenges we are faced.

We can live bearing the fruits of  love, hope, strength, joy, grace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self control or we can choose the latter.

We all live out our seasons of life and hopefully the fruits we bear and the seeds we sow will carry on in the hearts that we have touched. I know this to be true of these two amazing Spirits.

When our loved ones transition, we feel a deep loss.

When my grandmother passed, we read in one of her journals, “I am not really gone, only in the next room.” I know this to be true as well.

We miss the physical presence and embodiments of love.

Grief is a guide, a ride and a teacher.

Many bottle it up not allowing the healing process to occur.

Grief allows the energy and emotion to move through us and cleanse our hearts. If we don’t allow it to flow, it can turn into destructive anger, hate and disease. The key is to not let it take you over, but to ride the wave to the shore, where you will see the sun rise again. Death comes in many forms, not just an end of life. To be in awareness of your process is a key to your healing.

Stages of  Grief

  • Shock and Denial
  • Pain and Guilt
  • Anger and Bargaining
  • Depression and Reflection
  • Turn- Around
  • Reconstructing
  • Acceptance and Hope

I suggest journaling through the stages to assist with the healing process, and finding support with the emotional tides to use the energy constructively. All of our emotions are teachers to bring us to a more loving awareness about ourselves, others and the world we currently live in.

Grief held in the body can be destructive and effect our health and wellness.

Find a creative outlet to express your emotions and witness the beauty of your healing process while you witness the return of joy and love in your heart.

Big Hugs.

Your Healer is You.

Your healer is you.

Your savior is you.

What is created in what we call reality began with a seed of thought or words, then it became habits, patterns and choices; it became your life. What you communicate to your-self, is what has been programmed in your psyche/soul is what is being projected in your personal experience. What happens within all of us creates our collective experience.

Since I was a young one, my wise grandmother taught me about the powerful healing magic of the heart; the relationship between nature, earth, cosmos and stars and how to unite them. The relationship with all aspects of life begins with what has been planted and taken root within us.

My grandfather and mother reinforced what I intuitively knew about the energy of life, and the power of our mind and body that is fueled and directed by the heart.

Being a healer/coach I teach how to heal what is within you because this is the path to life, health and living. It’s not about living forever in human form, but illuminating life within and experiencing the gift we have been given with consciousness.

As humans we are dancing with our egos and emotions, what I like to refer to as the waves of life. Emotions are energy in motion, e-motion. Most of us lack emotional and energetic intelligence. Many are consumed by these waves and haven’t learned to surf them, observe them, learned what they are teaching us.

If you are waiting for a sign, this is it.

I am here to support the healing of your heart that brings forth all healing and health in your life.

A life well lived is one of a healed heart.

I remember a young client from about 7 years ago. He was in elementary school. I had just started my practice part time after my divorce. His mother brought him to me because he had a rare medical condition where he couldn’t walk and the doctors were not giving her answers.

Now I don’t treat medical issues, but I connect dots to support ones health and healing.

I listened to the mom’s story and gathered clues. It soon became clear to me. The mom had been going through a messy divorce. The boy’s whole life and foundation of safety had been shattered. The boy had a hard time processing his experience and the Emotional energy was stuck in his hips.

I worked with him, his mother and grandmother and soon, not only did he begin to heal, the mother and grandmother did as well. After a few years he was able to walk again on his own, and the mom happily remarried.

This family was one of my first “real” clients and I am so grateful to them for coming to me, trusting me and listening to their heart.

I offer free consultations to see how I can support you best.

Are you ready?

What Is Your Story?

This morning I woke up after a rough night and decided to go out on the deck, sit with the sun and do a practice called Morning Pages. Author Julia Cameron turned me on to and I love it. I often have my clients do the same thing with amazing results.

It’s a powerful practice because you just sit and free write what’s on your heart and mind. It’s a way to release ideas, emotions and stories from your system. It helps bring forth self inquiry and awareness to help you with anything you are currently dealing with.

I grabbed a journal opened it up and there were questions written on the page that I wanted to share with you if you wish to join along.

  • How do I want to feel?
  • Who do I want to be?
  • What do I want to receive?
  • What do I want to give?
  • Reaffirm how you want to feel?

After I answered those questions I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and began to write.

I was feeling hurt and I wanted to un-hurt.

I asked myself where was it coming from? I traced it back to a current experience and then went back even further.

When did I first feel this way?

Ah… as a child.

We all are products of our environment. The experiences we have had. This becomes our story and our subconscious pattern of how we relate to life and all our relationships, and our world view. We walk around with a series of stories that get recycled, season after season, generation after generation and relationship after relationship. Believe it or not, this is where the imbalance of our heart and mind begins and dis-ease can begin to grow in the body.

How do we heal and break the cycle?

We bring into awareness our story, our patterns and what has been communicated to us and what we are communicating to ourselves, to the world and all our relations. I have a practice I like to share called thought tracking or story tracking. In this process we become the observer, the creator, the author and editor of our story, our life and our health.

When we realize that we have the power to change the future by healing the past and write a new story, healing happens. Think of it as recording over a cassette tape with a new song and new story that you bring forth to a healing world.

When we heal the heart and mind the body and world will follow.

This is how we break the cycle.

This is where we have the power to heal and live in love.

Feel it to Heal it!

I’d like to start a discussion on how emotional and spiritual health have a tremendous impact on our mental and physical health and vice versa.

How our young ones need an integrated holistic health approach and our grown humans need help with their inner child and reparenting themselves.

We have continuously gone through the same cycles generation after generation due to unhealed stories and traumas that are inherited in our DNA that are stuck in our psyche/soul and physicality, our manifested form.

Unpacked stories and experiences that have not been looked at because they are hiding the the “boxes” of our home— our body and mind; in the basement of our heart.

The built up grief that develops into anger and inflammation in the body.

Piled up shame that collects debris in our cells and central nervous system.

Filed away fear that infects the microorganisms in our belly.

The lies, laying around covering up the truth and blocking the blood flow.

The illusions of the constructed mind that cause illness.

The attachments of all of the pain piled up that you cannot let go of. All of the unprocessed, unexpressed, unseen, unheard stories, experiences and the energy of emotions that have been bottled up in your being.

This is the true cause of dis-ease.

If all of this is reconciled and released from our mind and body, we are free, we are clear, we are seen, heard and fully expressed. We are whole, we are healthy and we are complete in all that we are.

It’s not just about what is on your plate.

You can go on a kale diet and still not feel good. This is the reason diets don’t work.

It’s not one size fits all.

We all hold similar, yet individual components.

Yes— we need to take care of the physical, but our physical system needs nourishment and nutrients in many more areas than what is on our plate.

This is what Holistic Health is about. It encompasses all the pieces of the organic sweet pie that is you. All the ingredients matter to heal, and to live your healthiest, happiest life.

We have an epidemic of addiction and disease because we have not taken care of our Whole Selves.

It’s hard, and you have to feel and address it all.

This is what I do.

This is what I hold space for.

This is what I help you navigate

So that you can see the healer, healing and health you have been looking for, has been with you all along.

There is no pill or surgery that can help you with this kind of internal medicine.

But I can.

I see you.

I feel you.

I hear you.

I love you.

A is for Ashwagandha

I was first introduced to this herb when I was in the midst of my separation after a 20 year relationship and 12 year marriage.  Needless to say it was a stressful time. I could use all the moral, emotional and herbal support I could find to help me through this major transition.

I enlisted the support of my Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Amber Golshani.  She was my hero, along with my acupuncturist, nature and lots of chocolate. She suggested I get an Ashwaganda supplement STAT and so I did.  It helped me tremendously.

Ashwaganda is an ancient herb that has been used for over 3000 years in Ayurvedic Medicine. It’s also known as Indian Gingseng. It is an adaptogen, meaning it can mysteriously adapt to your individual needs.

This magnificent plant has been used to support the following health issues:

  • Arthritis
  • Constipation
  • Insomnia
  • Skin Conditions
  • Stress
  • GI Issues
  • Diabetes
  • Nervous Breakdowns
  • Fevers
  • Snake Bites
  • Memory Loss

Of course there is no one cure all, however, with a healthy clean diet, plenty of water, sunshine and sleep are all part of the prescription. Always check with your plant friendly health care provider to see what herbs and supplements are good for you.

Dr Amber is now in Colorado supporting the community with herbs, yoga and naturopathy. You can follow her on IG at @healthydoctor.

Through the Tea Cup

Be careful what you feed your mind as you may lose the wisdom of your heart.

We are Al and Alice in wonderland- nothing is as it seems. It’s Spring and the bunnies are here running in a many directions. How do you know which way to go— what characters or voices do you believe?
Please sit, be still, and drink some tea and witness the transformation from water to awareness. Witness in those quiet moments, the warmth of the water. The taste and smell of the tea. What wisdom does this process offer thee? A dose of personal alchemy.
Everything that enters our physical body whether through the mind or mouth can nourish us or kill our life force energy. Our soul and our cells are listening.
This is the biology of Belief.
Manifestation of the mind.
If you see the bunny pass by Buddha in the garden please acknowledge the message of his presence and stillness. May you be reminded “what you think, you become”
You are the gatekeeper of heaven or hell, what enters here is free to dwell. May you be mindful what you put in your well.
As you stir your tea-spoon, You stir the inner pot and your gift of healing, awareness and transformation.
You hold the lock.
You hold the key.
Be still and see.

You hold a teaspoon of transformation for all humanity.

Tree of Life, Love and Medicine

The other night the kids and I packed our laptops and backpack and headed to Papas. My mom needed extra support. Family is everything. Supporting each other in the circle and seasons of life is why we are here— no matter what. I slept in the room I once called home after high school. He has lived in this house for 28 years. It’s literally been home based for our family.

He calls it the international resource center. If anyone needs anything they call or come here. Our base is surrounded by trees. There is a huge Magnolia out front standing guard. She represents the feminine divine healing energy and represents earth element, uniting heaven and Earth.

The Magnolia Tree has been used for along time in indigenous medicine and later used for cancer drugs, paclitaxel; Hoodia gordonii (from Namibia, source of weight loss drugs). Half of Magnolias (used as Chinese medicine for 5,000 years to fight cancer, dementia and heart disease).

Once upon a time, there was a French botanist by the name of Pierre Magnol (1638 – 1715). He helped scientists determine that plants came in families and not just species. Papa comes from French/English Ancestry.

Magnolias symbolized dignity and nobility.
In ancient China, magnolias were thought to be the perfect symbols of beauty and gentleness. Magnolia’s can live a century, that was Papa’s goal. So much beauty and symbolism. The next morning I was re-reading the Secrets of the Yoga Sutras. Like Steve Jobs gave Autobiography of a Yogi to everyone he loved, I would also add on this book.

“Life is a priceless gift for it endows us with everything we need to experience our grandeur. Discovering the intrinsic divinity at our core is the highest achievement; dying without experiencing is the greatest loss.”

If Papa were on Facebook he would tell you about Divine Universal Energy. He has embodied and taught me this for as long as I am remember. He has sat in Pure Consciousness and has seen and experienced his luminous nature. He has travelled to infinity and beyond. He has shared what is beyond what our mind can comprehend.
A few months ago he said to someone, “I may not agree with what happens here, but I am not ready to go yet…” He knows the gift and limitations of this plane, but what is also possible.

So much more is possible for us all and this planet if we connect with our hearts and our luminous selves. This is where transformation happens. I am rededicating my life to teach this, as he has taught me.

If we wish for things to change, we must transform ourselves, and like a Magnolia, with strength, gentleness and beauty of our hearts be the medicine for a troubled world.
